Troutbeck C&CC

Troutbeck is a Camping & Caravanning Club site in Cumbria.
We've visited once, in June 2009.

Troutbeck C&CC

Troutbeck is the C&CC site in the north lakes.  It's set just off the A66, although there's minimal road noise.  Obviously you're out in the wilds, so don't expect local restaurants or shops!

The site has a toilet block, and most pitches have EHU, with some being on hardstanding.  The layout of the site is a bit weird...most pitches are in a field at the bottom of a hill, with a few to one side of statics, and a lone one (the one on which we were pitched) at the top of the site.  The downside of this pitch is that being next to the entrance it's a bit of a thoroughfare, but being positive it was convenient for the toilet block (to be honest the main field is too remote from it).

There's a nice walk along a redundant part of the A66, then back across the fields along the river : would recommend this.  A bit further afield, there's a dis-used railway that heads towards Keswick, which is good if you fancy a walk but don't feel like tackling a hill.  As well as Keswick, the site is convenient for driving down to Ullswater.

Would we go back?  I doubt it : there's nothing too wrong with the site overall, it's just that the Caravan Club Troutbeck Head is nearby, and a much nicer site for our tastes.
